[Diaries of visits to the Himalaya Mountains, San Francisco and Liverpool], 1875-1912.

The diary, kept by Margaret Jenkins, 1911-1912, begins in New York on the ship S.S. Caronia. Jenkins is traveling with Samuel E. Stokes' mother. The ship docks in European and Middle Eastern ports and Jenkins describes sights. They arrive in Bombay (p. 26), and are met by Stokes and Elizabeth Wister. The main reason for the trip is to attend the wedding of Stokes and Agnes Benjamin. Jenkins describes events and people throughout India in detail, creating a picture of life there in that period. The two volumes are heavily illustrated with drawings by Jenkins and photographs. The 1875 diary is kept by a man from Germantown, PA sailing from N.Y. to San Francisco on the ship "M.P. Grace." Once there, the ship loads up for Liverpool (2 mo 21st) and later returns to Philadelphia.

Typescript and manuscript respectively.
